Gilroy, California Alcohol and Drug Rehab

Gilroy is located near the southern gateway to the Bay Area and provides residential space for many in Silicon Valley. Respondents from South County, including Gilroy, reported much higher rates of binge drinking than other regions in Santa Clara. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) defines binge drinking as three or more drinks in one sitting for women and four or more drinks in one sitting for men. 

Prescription Drug Abuse

Adults in South County, including Gilroy, reported the following regarding prescription drug abuse: 

  • 29 percent used prescription drugs in an unsanctioned way 
  • 24 percent took prescription drugs without a prescription
  • 16 percent reported abusing over the counter OTC medications 

Drug and Alcohol Treatment Types in Gilroy, California

A study by Gavilan College found that Gilroy had the highest negative risk indicators in Santa Clara County. These risk factors include: 

  • the highest rate of homelessness
  • lowest median income
  • most reports of child abuse
  • least substance abuse treatment for youth
