Opioid-related deaths in SLO County dropped from 37 in 2016 to 13 in 2018. Strangely, the number of opioid-related hospitalizations have increased from 64 in 2016 to 94 in 2018. Experts believe that this increase may be due to the rise in fentanyl-laced street opioids in the area.
