San Luis Obispo Drug and Alcohol Addiction Rehabilitation

San Luis Obispo, or SLO for short, is a city in Southern California’s Central Coast region. SLO is an endless outdoor playground with many activities such as hiking, surfing, and zip-lining.

Similar to other Californian cities, San Luis Obispo is not immune to substance abuse issues. In 2017, the rate of death from opioid overdose was almost 4 per 10,000 people among residents.

Opioid Crisis in SLO

Drug and Alcohol Treatment Programs in San Luis Obispo, California

Drug and alcohol treatment programs in San Luis Obispo are varied. Generally, addiction treatment programs will include:

  • individual or group counseling
  • residential treatment
  • outpatient programs
  • holistic treatment services

Substance abuse is complex to treat, but it is possible. Addiction treatment can help individuals do the following:

  • stop using drugs
  • stay drug-free
  • be productive in their family, at work, and in society

Which Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program Works Best?

No single treatment program is right for everyone, and effective treatment addresses all of the person’s needs, not just their drug use. The most common addiction treatment types are inpatient and outpatient drug rehabs.

These programs are both effective in addressing substance abuse issues. However, individuals with more severe conditions will want to start in an inpatient program, as these programs provide more intensive support and remove outside distractions that might hinder the treatment process.

Whichever program someone chooses, they should make sure that the program can:

  • address other possible mental disorders
  • allow them to stay as long as needed
  • frequently review treatment plans and make modifications based on changing needs
  • have a counseling or other behavioral health component
